Our Story
After 15 years in leadership at high-performance digital marketing agencies, specialising in Paid Media and search engine solutions, I witnessed the same frustrations repeatedly: talented teams bogged down by manual, tedious workflows that drained creativity and delivered subpar client experiences. These inefficiencies weren't just operational hiccups-they were driving talent away, introducing costly errors, and creating genuine pain points for the clients we served.
Everything changed during 12 months of intensive work building intelligent AI solutions with platforms like n8n. What started as individual productivity experiments revealed something far more significant: AI automation wasn't just about creating personal assistants, it was about reimagining organisational infrastructure entirely.
I realised we could elevate automated solutions from simple task-helpers to strategic team members capable of validating complex ideas, executing end-to-end processes, and seamlessly integrating into company-wide workflows.
This is why I founded flowio: to empower teams with intelligent automations that unlock human potential.

Former Head of Performance in top-tier digital agencies managing large-scale Paid Search & media activity, Malcolm has 15+ years of experience in performance marketing, automation and solving client business challenges. Malcolm has an extensive background in web development, paid media and digital marketing, with a strong skillset in SQL, Python, HTML, JSON and much more.

What's behind the name 'flowio'?
Pronounced flow-IO. Really, I think it pins down exactly what we are trying to do, evolve worklows with optimised input and high quality output. Together, flowio captures the essence of what I aim to build: intelligent, efficient, end-to-end workflows. Not to be confused with flowio app or flowio engineering. flowio (with a lowercase f) is an AI Automation Agency in the UK.
How long have you been building AI automations?
I've been building AI-powered automations for over a year now personally and working alongside others doing the same thing - ranging from client solutions to internal tools and personal quality-of-life improvements. But my journey with automation goes back much further. Over five years ago, I began automating my home - IoT devices and Home Assistant, sparking a deep interest in system design and integration. The arrival of accessible AI has completely transformed what's possible. The ability to blend automation with intelligent decision-making opens the door to truly unique solutions - and Im genuinely excited about what the future holds.
Do you only build AI Automations?
We build custom AI automations, but our core focus at flowio is to deliver impactful AI growth solutions that help businesses navigate, perform and succeed in an ever-changing world of AI. Optimising business workflows, helping business navigate and teach AI is all a part of what we offer here at flowio.
We customise our solutions to each business requirement - AI automations may be a large or only part of what we deliver to a client, but for others we may build internal LLMs, customised RAG systems, Micro AI Tooling, AI based Web Apps and more. We also offer training, consulting and support to clients to help empower organisations to build their own AI automations.
Which locations do flowio serve?
We are based in Central Scotland, with bases in Glasgow and Edinburgh, Scotland - UK. We have worked with clients globally and can serve clients in London, the US, Canada, Australia, Europe and more.
For consulting packages we also offer in-person meetings within the United Kingdom, and can travel to your location to meet, and to understand your business in-depth.
Where do you see AI moving towards in the future?
This is a tough question, as AI has advanced rapidly - moreso than any technology I can remember in over 25 years. I believe AI will continue to evolve and advance rapidly even moreso. The kinds of AI automations that you see commonly today will ultimately be rolled into LLMs like ChatGPT as functionality. Search engines, and the way in which we search and consume information is also likely to drastically change with more of a conversational pattern of search through AI chat platforms.
I believe that the biggest opportunity for businesses is to get to grip with the basics right now, how can AI leverage and aid competitive advantage into your business? The difference will be the organisations that see AI as a platform for growth rather than a platform for cost-cutting and headcount reduction. Utilising AI solutions has the potential to expand capacity, produce deep-work with quality outcomes, and empower teams to be able to take on more by cutting manual bottlenecks.
Nobody can say ultimately what will happen next in the AI space, we are technically in an AI arms race with the major platforms, OpenAI, Google, Meta, Anthropic all competing for the next evolution. Of course, the next evolution of AI will hopefully be Artificial General Intelligence or AGI - I see this advancement fundamentally changing humankind - enabling almost a sci-fi level class of technology advancements along with it.
