Can The ChatGPT Agent Build An Entire Google Ads Campaign?
With the launch of the new ChatGPT Agent – effectively a virtual agent within your ChatGPT interface that can browse the web like a human performing tasks from booking flights to clicking through websites – we set out to see if it could build a new campaign in Google Ads.
Can a ChatGPT agent build an entire Performance Max campaign in Google Ads?
How to access ChatGPT Agent?
The agent launched across paid OpenAI accounts over the last few weeks. To access the agent, in your chat use the tools and select ‘Agent mode’.
Once prompted, the agent will spin up in your interface. For any accounts you need to login to, it will let you take over to perform this on your own.
The good thing is that when the agent is running, you can use the ‘Take over’ function which allows you to have control over the functionality, and whenever ChatGPT is unsure or needs authentication it will stop and provide you access.

Once you have prompted and the agent spins up – almost like spinning up a virtual machine – then it will get to work until you take over or it needs authorisation steps.

Having a background in PPC, I started to wonder if this agent could autonomously create new Google Ads campaigns on its own.
We briefed it minimally on purpose to see if it could make decisions on its own.
Simply, create a new PMAX campaign for flowio.co.uk with £50/day budget, for the UK only to target form submission conversions in English target language, and use generated or found assets.
Obviously we were never going to test this on a live Google Ads account, so we used our flowio development Google Ads account as a test. After taking over to login to the account, we handed back control to the agent which then created the entire campaign.
You can watch the full process in the video below.
In Conclusion: Yes, ChatGPT Agent Can Build Google Ads Campaigns
Pleasantly surprised, after around 10 minutes the ChatGPT Agent had built a full PMAX campaign including assets, settings and budget.
Now, if you work in PPC you would most likely never use this or set any campaigns up this way. There were obviously quite a few things missing (as it was also a test account) including signals, conversion events and proper assets etc.
However, it does show the potential of having AI agent systems like this. While you might be busy with another client you could spin up an agent to perform analysis, pull data, analyse thousands of negative keywords and produce an Excel output.
Although the agent is seemingly slow at the moment (it was slower to build a PMAX campaign than doing it manually) it can still perform those basic tasks that eat your time.
These kinds of tasks can also be achieved through automated processes utilising tools such as n8n and the Google Ads API.
I see the potential of the ChatGPT Agent, particularly if you could potentially spin 100 of these up to perform manual tasks or scheduled tasks across Google Ads, or even Meta accounts, but right now I prefer to build my PPC campaigns manually, or assisted with automation!
Give it a try, it can do everything from writing reports, creating Powerpoint decks to finding and booking flights.
